I have been noticing for a number of years now, repeating numbers, as in 10:10, 11:11, 4:44, etc., repeatedly. As of late, into that mix I can now add to this list ascending and descending number such as 1234, 543, 432, etc. And as a side note, just prior to publishing this article I received a text for an interview for the 11th at 11am and in that same time frame, as I started to transfer a video from YouTube to this site, that URL number had 1111!

Initial Query
I initially wanted to know if there could be an explanation to what may be more than just coincidence, regarding what I soon discovered, seems to be some sort of phenomenon, that of repeating numbers. Where to turn….ah yes! Google. After what I considered a light search on the topic, I was surprised to see the amount of results pointing towards “angel numbers” as being the common theme for the answer.
If I understand correctly, the angels or my angels/guides are responsible for showing me these repeating numbers and within the numbers are messages, messages from my angels, or guides. That search then had me looking in a different but related direction.
Subsequent Query
What are the origins for this type of explanation and how was I to decipher or interpret such numerals, aside from what they are – numbers. Well, this is just a blog not a thesis so I am pointing towards the Greek philosopher Pythagoras as a possible answer to my queries. I say possible because I did not dive into the history of mathematics from cultures such as Mayan, Indian or Chinese, however, here is a great site to get your feet wet if so interested.
To be brief: Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher born around 569 B.C. He seemed to have gathered a following; some say a cult, known as Pythagoreans. They studied philosophy, mathematics, and music.
One of the held beliefs of the Pythagoreans was that numbers had mystical properties or “number mysticism”. This belief was rooted in their discovery of, as Tracy V. Wilson writes in an article for Howstuffworks, “…. If you add up a series of odd numbers beginning with the number one, the result is always a square number (more).
That belief, if you search the internet, currently holds true, in regards to assigning numbers with a type of mystical properties and as I later learnt, properties come from the numbers’ inherent vibration. “In the real world, arithmancy is known as numerology. According to numerologists, everything in the world is dependent upon the mystical properties of numbers. These properties come from the numbers’ inherent vibration (Tracy V. Wilson).
This is where, for me, it gets to the root of my original query. According to the website The Story of Mathematics (more) “The over-riding dictum of Pythagoras’s school was “All is number” or “God is number”. Could this be another connection to today’s association of numbers and ethereal beings? (angels/spirit guides).
Apparently, Pythagoreans also described numbers in terms of non-numerical traits, traits that “… had more to do with intuition and mysticism than science or mathematics…” with such examples as ascribing certain numbers as feminine, masculine and the number ten was considered sacred.
Mathematical mysticism seemed too died when Pythagoras did, until, that is, according to T. Wilson, the publication of books by a Mrs. L. Dow Balliett. These books dealt with “…number vibration, music and colors. Other writers may have published work prior to Balliett, but her books seem to incorporate Pythagorean principles and add the concepts used in numerology today”.
Apparently, Pythagoras is credited, according to many numerologists, as the founding father of numerology. Wilson states, “In the real world, arithmancy is known as numerology. According to numerologists, everything in the world is dependent upon the mystical properties of numbers. These properties come from the numbers’ inherent vibration“.
I find these to be compelling examples that touch on answering my subsequent query. With that out of the way, I now turn to ask why it is that so many people are seemingly seeing repeating numbers. “According to many numerologists, nothing happens by accident — everything happens because of numbers” (Tracy V. Wilson).
That above quote may be true because the day that I am writing this sentence (8/8/21) I encountered, first thing in the morning, a search engine site on my phone that I NEVER googled. I initially wrote and posted this blog on Saturday August 7. I was more or less done, aside from possible research regarding why we see patterns and the link between that and this topic but that would have to wait for a future date as I had other articles I wanted to work on.
I went to open my chrome app on my phone only to find an “article” on a site called Reddit. I have never been on this site in my life, not even sure what it is about, book reviews that is what came to mind. Regardless, I noticed the article appeared to be archived. The article subject matter was on repeating numbers. I was gob-smacked. Seriously, I thought I was being pranked. I have absolutely no idea how that came to be. I do my research on my PC , in addition to, I have never been to that site. It would never occur to me to go there for research! That being said, I will now continue with my article that I though I put to bed. Apparently not. I will include my new additions in blue.
Technology
Many people seem to be noticing repeating numbers – human nature, perhaps – anyways that got me to thinking about the different types of devices that have clocks in/on them. In addition, all the different types of technologies that allow for the displaying of numbers.
If the premise that angels are sending messages using analog/digital devises holds true, how then, did angels convey their messages prior to the 15th century invention of clocks? Perhaps, one could argue even before the time of sundials.
– Food for thought – I am going to require time to digest that idea and perhaps bring it to light in a future blog.
Conclusion – Initial Query.
To date I have the explanation of numerology, which seems to umbrella the angel/guide numbers theory.
Conclusion- Subsequent Query
I am satisfied with my findings regarding possible origins. I will look from time to time to see if the “angel” number explanations resonates with me.
According to a reddit site ( more) people tend to pay “…attention to and encode more frequently the times when you looked at a clock and [see] the same digits than all of the other times when you looked at a clock and the digits were different. It is then much easier to recall the times when you saw same digits than all the other times when you didn’t”. Apparently due to a combination of confirmation bias and the availability heuristic.
The posts goes on to say that “…more often than not you are not seeing repeating numbers when you look, you just don’t remember those instances. But when you do see the repeating numbers it sticks in your head” I could see that as a possibility however, one day in the life of me, I wrote down the number of times I looked at clock/numbers and found that approximately 90% of those siting were repeating/descending/ascending numbers – mind you it was just one day of me recording such occurrences.
“Confirmation bias is one example of how humans sometimes process information in an illogical, biased manner. Many factors of which people are unaware can influence information processing. Philosophers note that humans have difficulty processing information in a rational, unbiased manner once they have developed an opinion about the issue”. https://www.britannica.com/science/confirmation-bias
Interesting point about being rational regarding processing information, except that I had not developed an opinion about the issue hence this blog.
One explanation I read regarding availability heuristic, was “whenever [one] estimates frequency or probability by the ease with which instances or associations could be brought to mind.” In simpler terms, one guesses the likelihood that things happen by using easily recalled memories as a reference”(more).
Yes, I can see how that reads rationally but I do not feel that applies to me of course I may be bias 😉 I am now at the end of this blog topic. Well I am wrong again, It is now August 10th and I can not tell you how many times I have been seeing 1111 so much so that this next link came to my attention this evening. I realized earlier today that I should provide a link to more than just one side of the story. I am not that familiar with the presenter but it shouted out to me. So here it is,
I would love to hear constructive thoughts on the issue or perhaps you would like to contribute to the questionnaire below, no other information is taken, it is just for a little audience participation, if the spirit moves you!
